Hi all! I thought I”d start this off. One thing I dealt with when pregnant that affected my performance was pregnancy carpal tunnel. I had to wear arm bands, dealt with hand/finger numbness, and also constantly had puffy chops from water retention, which isn’t very fun for a brass player. It was manageable and thankfully temporary 🙂 Anyone else experienced anything similar?
Hello Jen. My name is Daphne Collins. I am a pianist/accompanist/keyboardist. I too, have carpal tunnel problems. I only have two piano students, but I work for two small churches as their worship leader/keyboardist and or piano player. Through the years I have been an accompanist/keyboard player and I do free-lance work and sometimes sing when I play for weddings. I do private parties around Christmas time and I have been the music director pianist for several music theater and or mystery theater productions. I am also a reading teacher and my hands and joints have really been hurting a lot, especially as I also have osteo arthritis. I believe that God has been watching over me and I am thankful for that. It is sometimes scary, especially as we age but I know and believe that we will all get through it with God watching over us. I will pray for your carpal tunnel to improve and for your healing. I know that God has a plan for all of us but that He see us through. I am seeing a specialist and we will decide if I can have surgery to improve my situation or intense physical therapy with a pinched nerve problem. Take care of yourself. Daphne Collins
Hi Daphne,
Thanks for your response, and I’m sorry you’re going through that too. I had my son 2 years ago, and as soon as he was born, the symptoms all went away, thankfully. Best of luck with the therapist and deciding which will be your best options. I know several musicians that have had that surgery and worked through it successfully. Best of luck!
Jen
